Your Saratoga Moving Questions, Answered
These are the questions Pete and the crew field most from neighbors around Saratoga Springs, Wilton, Ballston Spa, Malta, and the rest of the county as they line up a move. Yours not here? Ring (888) 711-4778 and we will get you an answer inside one business hour.
What does a local move around Saratoga usually run?
Several factors drive the figure: how big the home is, the distance, the access situation (a steep East Side staircase, a downtown COI, a Malta HOA window, the meet-season parking crunch), and which season you book. Hourly, that works out to $135 for a two-mover crew, $180 for three, and $235 for four, though most families opt for a flat price, landing somewhere near $420 to $680 for a studio and stretching up toward $3,200 to $4,980 for a four-bedroom. Pete commits that flat number to writing beforehand, so nothing gets piled on after the truck is loaded.
Do you take a deposit to hold the date?
A modest deposit, typically $100 to $200, reserves your spot on the calendar and is applied straight back as a credit toward the closing bill. You will see every term laid out clearly on the written rate, handed to you before any money changes hands.
Are you really licensed and insured?
We are. New York's State Department of Transportation licenses Haul of Fame for in-state moves, and our interstate runs are covered by US DOT and MC authority. Whether the job is two blocks or two thousand miles, it carries $1M cargo coverage backed by full liability.
When should I book, and how does winter change things?
Our calendar fills fastest in summer, around month-end, on the Skidmore turnover dates, and through the July-August meet, so booking roughly 3 weeks ahead gives you the best shot at your preferred day and an early start. In the heart of winter we keep a close eye on the forecast and leave room in the schedule, because a heavy snow or an ice storm can bump a date for everyone's safety. During the quieter months, 7 to 10 days is generally plenty, and we can sometimes squeeze a small move in on short notice.
What is actually covered in a standard local move?
Standard service means blanket-wrapping your furniture, carrying it out, the transport, and placing it wherever you direct, with light disassembly and reassembly on beds and tables thrown in. When snow and slush are getting tracked indoors, we lay down floor protection against the water and road salt at no extra cost and keep the path salted and clear. Packing materials, a full pack, piano moving, and gun-safe rigging come as extras that Pete builds into the rate up front.
What happens if I have to cancel?
Give us more than 48 hours of notice and there is no charge at all. Cancel inside that window and a fee may apply, sized to the hours we had already reserved on your behalf. And if a major storm forces a reschedule, we lock in a new date at no penalty. You will find the precise terms on your flat-rate estimate.
Do you handle long-distance moves out of New York?
Absolutely. Our own people handle the interstate and long-distance runs on our US DOT authority, with no outside help brought in. Common routes carry households from Saratoga to Boston, New York City, Florida, and other Northeast destinations. You receive a binding estimate in writing before we load, and the same crew rides with your shipment from pickup to delivery.
Can you move me out of an old downtown Victorian or a Skidmore-area condo?
No trouble at all. The steep narrow staircases of the East Side Victorians and Broadway walk-ups, the West Side and Geyser Crest bungalows, the downtown and Skidmore-area condos are everyday work for us. When you ask for a quote, tell us the floor, how the elevator works, the parking, and any HOA or building rules, and we will line up the Certificate of Insurance and the building's reserved move slot with management beforehand.
Can you hold my things between the move-out and move-in dates?
Sure. When your dates refuse to meet, your belongings wait in heated, climate-controlled storage, somewhere around $95 to $265 monthly based on unit size. That counts for a lot up here, where an unheated locker would expose furniture to sub-zero cold and freeze-thaw the whole season through. Pricing and specifics come along with your estimate.
What if something gets damaged?
Every move carries $1M cargo coverage, defaulting to $0.60/lb released value, with 1–3% full-value protection available on request. Find something damaged and call us straightaway. We document it, guide you through the 9-month claim window, and resolve it in-house. Your belongings remain our responsibility start to finish.
Are you a moving company?
Yes, a fully licensed New York moving company. Haul of Fame is a licensed moving and storage company headquartered in Saratoga Springs, founded by Pete Halloran in 2014, handling every move on our own trucks with our own W-2 crew throughout Saratoga County. From the first call to the last carton, the people you work with are ours and never a subcontractor, and your information is never shared or sold.
What is the fastest way to get a price?
Get in touch by phone or through the site and we will go over the particulars: how big the home is, your origin and destination, the date, and anything out of the ordinary like a piano or a gun safe. From there Pete builds a single flat rate factoring in the stairs, the downtown COI, the HOA access, the parking, and the winter conditions, schedules the crew, sets the date, and follows up afterward to confirm everything went right.
